The Academy Awards always come with a lot of betting attached to them, and speculation is skyrocketing for the 91st Oscar Awards due to take place tonight.
One award that is piquing the interest is that of Best Director with the odds suddenly jumping dramatically in favour of Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos.
The odds for the director of apt-titled Oscar favourite, The Favourite, opened at +5000, as high as +2225 a few hours ago and +250, even +45 on some betting boards.
It is believed that this is the result of a leak, and a few books such as MyBookie and FanDuel have stopped taking bets on the award altogether.
On his part, Lanthimos is preparing for the big night to see if his latest film will win some of the ten Academy Awards for which it is nominated, and whether he wins or fails, one wonders if he had any idea he would ever get this far.
