Extreme heat has caused tram services in Melbourne to be cancelled. Temperature heights of 36C expected on Thursday and 35C on Friday and Saturday means that tram lines will continue to remain shut.

Yarra Trams have been cancelled and replaced with buses due to the heatwave in Victoria.

Three other routes were also disrupted by cancellations.

Tram passengers have been advised to check timetables and allow for plenty of time for their journeys.

As a result of the extreme weather conditions, there are more cars on the road and traffic congestion.

A ‘blocking high’ on the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand is causing the intense heat.
