Former Victorian president of the Comancheros bikie gang Amad “Jay’’ Malkoun, aged 56, was seriously injured in a car bomb in Glyfada, an upmarket southern suburb of Athens.

The explosion took place at 10am on Friday morning at an open-air car park as Mr Malkoun left the local gym at 28 Vouliagmenis Avenue.

Eyewitness accounts state that was pulled out of the wreckage within moments after the explosion by either a passerby or one of his own bodyguards.

Authorities closed down both lanes of traffic on the busy avenue and had to put out the fire caused by the explosion that also spread to three adjacent cars.

The incident is currently being investigated and it is still unknown whether the explosive mechanism was detonated by the ignition or done remotely.

Greek police sources say the man’s driving license was issued by the United Arab Emirates, however the license plate on the car were Australian.

He is currently being treated at the Asclipeio General Hospital in Voula for serious injuries which are not life threatening.

Mr Malkoun had left Australia with his wife and two children in 2013 and moved to Dubai to escape internal warfare within his bikie gang.
