The Forbes World’s Billionaires List is out for 2019 and casts the spotlight on the world’s richest. Once again Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates top the list at the 1st and 2nd position with an estimated wealth of $31 billion and $6 billion respectively.

The wealthiest Greek on the list is Philip Niarchos, who climbed to 804th position from 859th last year. The French-based billionaire is the oldest son of the late shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos, and he inherited much of his father’s wealth that also includes a spectacular art collection. His net worth is valued at $2.8 billion – which is what he was also valued at last year. He is 65 years old, married, and has four children.

Spiro Latsis, who has been managing the family fortune since shipping tycoon John S. Latsis died in 2003, rolled in at 838th position. He is aged 72 and lives in Geneva. The family still has a foot in shipping through Latsco shipping though they’re now also investing in real estate. The family own stakes in Hellenic Petroleum and Lamda Development. His networth is $2.9 billion.

Down in the 1116th spot is Swiss-based Greek Aristotelis Mistakidis, also known as Telis. With a net worth of $2.2 billion, the 57-year-old first made Forbes list in 2011 when Glencore went public. He currently owns 3 per cent of the company’s stock but stepped down from his role as the director of Glencore’s copper business at the end of 2018 after Canadian regulators fined and banned him from serving as a director due to compliance violations.

Vardis Vardinoyannis, aged 86, is the only Greek billionaire high up on the list that actually lives in Greece. With a net worth of $1.7 billion he lives in Athens and is the father of five children. He co-founded Motor Oil Hellas, a petroleum company based in Greece. It went public on the Athens stock exchange in August 2001. Apart from Motor Oil, the family also invests in shipping, finance and soccer teams.
