A historical manuscript bearing the signature of Theodoros Kolokotronis, leader of the resistance of the Greeks against the Ottoman empire in 1821, is being put up for auction.

The document, that is also signed alongside by esteemed members of the Peloponnesian Senate Elders, advises Hellenes to leave their differences aside and fight for the motherland.

The rare manuscript is actually an oath of taken by Kolokotronis and the Senate members to act in unison to save their nation, dated 16 October 1822.

The document is not the only noteworthy heirloom to be auctioned by Vergos on 14 March; it belongs to a collection that features more than 530 rare books, documents, manuscripts, photographs and engravings.

Vergos will also auction a handwritten account of the participation of the Ioannites in the Morosini campaign with the fate of eight ships under J. J. von Herberstein (1686-1687) on the day as well as a precious copy of ‘Aya Sofia, Constantinople’ with 25 lithographs engraved by architect G. Fossati, who organised the restoration work of the 1847-1849 monument. The collection of lithographs was compiled and published in London back in 1852.
