It would seem that going up a division has made very little difference to the Hawthorn Spartans, as they’ve picked up where they left off last season, trampling on anyone unfortunate enough to fall in their path.

This week it was Old Geelong Grammar who were subjected to a heavy defeat by the Spartans at Rathmines Reserve, as the final result (15-10-100 to 4-9-33) left little doubt as to who the better team was.

The team from Hawthorn took the lead early on in the game and after the second quarter it was no longer a question of “who”, but rather “by how much” the home side would win the game.

Cowie managed to distinguish himself in the game by a small margin from the rest of his teammates, scoring two goal kicks and was among the players to make the greatest contribution toward the final result.
