It’s almost as though PAOK wanted to hold off on securing the championship title until they were in front of their own home crowd.

Although not for a lack of trying, Razvan Lucescu’s men did not secure all three points from their away game against AEL, being held to a 1-1 draw.

The black-and-whites created several opportunities in the game and were able to find a goal thanks to a magnificent shot by captain Pelkas from outside the area, after a deflection from a corner kick.

However, the home side responded through Jakimovski, who received the ball in the area and attempted a cross but ended up unwillingly sending the ball into Paschalakis’ net, resulting in the final score.

During the game, the team’s leader Adelino Vieirinha was injured, suffering a meniscus rupture that will keep him on the sidelines for the next few months.

This result means that PAOK will have another chance to secure the highly-coveted Super League title in front of their own crowd on Sunday as they host the already relegated Levadiakos.

The Toumba stadium is expected to be maxed out by fans looking to experience moments that will go down in the club’s history.

Meanwhile, Olympiacos is continuing to fire on all cylinders as their latest victims were Xanthi, who they annihilated 4-0.

Two goals by on-form Guilherme, another from Elabdellaoui and a magnificent finish by skipper Kostas Fortounis made the difference between the two clubs in front of a sold-out Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, as the club’s fans wanted to show their appreciation for the team’s efforts and their continued support for the season to come.

Current champions AEK may have felt robbed by the referee’s decisions in Lamia, as a mistaken penalty decision cost them the win.

Manolo Jimenez’s men took the lead early in the game after a wonderful combination by Bakasetas and Mantalos saw the latter plant the ball high into the back of the net.

But a few minutes later, a Bakasetas contact on Bejarano that was clearly outside the area was given as a penalty by referee Skoulas, with the AEK officials voicing their complaints. Yet nothing changed and Barrales equalised from the spot.

The same player put the home side in front on the 53rd, while Boye scored for AEK on the 67th.

Panathinaikos fell victim to one of the most embarrassing defeats in their modern history, as they were subjected to a 1-3 home loss at the hands of OFI.

Despite the fact that they were able to claim the lead thanks to Macheda’s effort, an own goal by the same player and another two by Sassi and Giakoumakis created the final result that left the greens feeling like they have a mountain to climb for next season.

Thankfully for Giorgos Donis’ men, Aris also fell victim to a home defeat at the hands of Atromitos, who appeared comfortable at the Kleanthis Vikelidis.

Two goals in the first half by Manousos and Koulouris were enough for the Peristeriotes to walk away with the three points.

This result leaves Panathinaikos’ hopes of entering the Europa League intact.

At the bottom of the table, five teams (Giannena, OFI, Asteras Tripolis, Xanthi and AEL) are fighting the ultimate battle for survival to avoid the dreaded relegation zone.
