A German woman, 60, was seriously wounded in the neck after being attacked by an unknown assailant at the eastern coast of Lesvos on Sunday. The woman, a volunteer in programs offering support to asylum seekers, was assaulted by a man using an unspecified object. He stole around 20 euros and her mobile phone before fleeing.

A report by the Athens Macedonia News Agency states that the woman told police that the attacker told her in English to keep quiet.

Injuries are serious and the woman has been transferred to a hospital in Athens. A manhunt is on to find the perpetrator.
