Greeks have long been criticised for tax evasion, however the problem is far more complex than it seems. Director Kelly Sarri’s latest documentary, titled Tax Evasion: A Greek National Sport, takes a close look at corruption and tax avoidance in Greece and how the system is structured to almost mandate this type of behaviour.

The documentary speaks to businesses that claim that they would not be sustainable if they were to brunt the full tax burden, as the current tax laws would require them to pay 70-75 per cent in taxes. Employees also would not be able to live off taxed salaries and the documentary also explores Greece’s black market.

The documentary has already been screened at major fetivals around the world, such as the Los Angeles CineFest and Hollywood International Moving Pictures.
