The fifth Round FFA Cup draw which took place on Tuesday has thrown up some stiff early challenges to perennial Cup achievers Bentleigh Greens and Heidelberg United. Both teams have been drawn to play NPL 1 opponents, with the Bergers to host northern suburb neighbour and rival Hume City, whilst Bentleigh Greens will travel a short distance to the Grange Reserve to take on south east NPL 1 neighbour Kingston City in a Greek derby.

With Round 5 matches scheduled to take place in early May, both Kingston and Bentleigh will get the chance to study each other at close quarters prior to their FFA Cup tie, when they meet this Monday evening in a Rd 10 league encounter at the same venue.

The other Greek based NPL 1 clubs remaining in the competition, Oakleigh Cannons and South Melbourne have fared somewhat better in the draw, although the Cannons will host a tough opponent in NPL 2 club North Geelong Warriors. South, following their narrow 1-0 home win over Essendon Royals in the previous round, have drawn another State League one club Doveton, but this time away from home.

NPL 2 club Brunswick City has drawn fellow NPL 2 club Werribee City which knocked out Green Gully 3-1 in the previous round. Northcote City will be favoured to progress beyond round five after drawing State League 2 side Boroondara-Carey Eagles at home.

At the other end of the league pyramid, the fairy-tale ride continues for State League five club Waverley Wanderers, following its upset 1-0 win over State League three club Lalor United in the previous round. The Wanderers will get the chance to produce a truly giant killing effort when it hosts NPL 2 club Langwarrin, coached by former A-League coach Scott Miller.
