Behind every great team, there is a great captain and the Hawthorn Spartans are no exception.

The Spartans’ skipper and assistant coach, Anthony Demetriou has been beside them since day one.

He was one of the founding members of the eastern suburb club and on Saturday he reaches the milestone of 100 appearances as a player, guiding the team to many important successes and wins along the way.

The Spartans will honour their captain before the start of the game and will hope to combine this momentous occasion with yet another win, celebrating Demetriou’s important day in the best way possible.

Of course their opponents, Swinburne University will not make things easy for them as they too will want a win, but as most teams visiting Rathmine Reserve can attest, such a feat does not occur often.

Hawthorn currently sit at the top of the rankings with seven wins and just a single loss this season and they will hope to continue to build on that success as they welcome Swinburne at 11.40 am.
