Perth Glory defender Jason Davidson is bound for Korea after a midweek announcement stating he has agreed to sign a two-year contract with one of the K-League’s biggest clubs, Ulsan Hyundai.

27-year-old Davidson is the son of Socceroo and South Melbourne legend Alan Davidson and Greek-Australian mom Effie. He attracted the attention of Korean scouts with his eye-catching performances for Perth Glory on their way to winning their first ever A-League Premier’s Plate.

The announcement to leave Glory after just one season, is somewhat unexpected, coming as it does after Davidson recently agreed to a season long extension with the Glory whom he joined in August 2018, after almost 10 years playing professionally in Europe including spells in Portugal, Holland, England and Croatia.

Speaking to the World Game, Davidson expressed his gratitude to Perth Glory, and explained his decision to move once more, when the offer from Ulsan came along.

“When I came to the club I wanted to give myself the best opportunity to be successful, and Tony Popovic and everybody at the club gave me that platform,” he said.

“I’m very grateful for that – but, in football, when opportunities arise like this you need to grab them with both hands.

“Ulsan are a big club and are everything that Perth – having qualified for the (AFC) Champions League – are striving to follow.

“Ulsan are up there fighting for the title and play Urawa Reds tonight (Wednesday) chasing a place in the last eight of the ACL.

“To be a able to be a part of something like that – if the deal all goes forward – really attracted me.”

Davidson is also hopeful that the move to Ulsan, who are currently second on the K-League table, will also enhance his chances of adding to his 22 Socceroos caps, which include playing in all the group matches at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil under then recently appointed coach Ange Postecoglou.

“Having an opportunity like this, to be able to go over there to a big club, and hopefully play week-in week-out will give me a stronger claim to the national team,” he added.
