Assistant Police Commissioner Peter Bravos, 52,  is facing charges relating to incidents allegedly committed against two victims in 2004 and 2006.

On Friday, Prosecutor Nick Papas QC presented a brief of evidence against the senior police officer to Darwin Local Court Judge John Neil.

It was decided that there was a prima facie case against Bravos, who has been granted bail.

The case will now proceed to the Supreme Court.

“I’m satisfied that the evidence is sufficient for him to be put on his trial for those four counts,” the judge said.

Only a small portion of the brief was read aloud by Mr Papas, with the material including a statement from one of the victims who said she “felt the body weight on top of her” when she was allegedly attacked at Darwin’s Esplanade.

“I felt something hold up my dress … and I remember feeling something cold inside me,” Mr Papas read.

The trial date has yet to be fixed.
