I join the Greek community in Australia in paying tribute to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, on his official enthronement as the new Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia.
Archbishop Makarios has dedicated his life to service, and has made an enormous contribution to the Church in various capacities. Highly educated in many fields, including theology, the history of science and bioethics, he has served as an academic in various universities, and represented the Mother Church of Constantinople throughout the world.
Archbishop Makarios was unanimously elected as Archbishop of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, reflecting the high regard with which he is held in the Greek Orthodox Church. Australia’s nearly 400,000 Greek Orthodox Christians can now benefit from the knowledge and commitment he brings as Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church of Australia.
I send His Eminence Archbishop Makarios my best wishes for the upcoming enthronement and years of service to the Greek Orthodox Church of Australia.
