Giannis Antetokounmpo’s love of Greece knows no bounds. No matter how high he flies, he talks of the country where he was born and raised, and footwear and apparel giant Nike took advantage of this in their latest symbolic gesture to honour the great basketball player.

Their latest promotional campaign chose the summit of the fabled Mount Olympus, home of the gods, to honour the 2018-2019 modern god by erecting a small basketball hoop on the top of Greece’s highest peak in his honour.

Nike’s slogan reads: “Fate can start you at the bottom. Dreams can take you to the top”.

The slogan sums up the life of Antetokounmpo, who rose from a poor neighbourhood in Athens to become the 2018-2019 NBA MVP, and he is using his fame and acclaim to promote Greece and the sport in the same neighborhoods where grew up.

Nike posted the video on its Twitter feed:

To make it to the top, put your dreams to work.

To celebrate @Giannis_An34's MVP rise, we took this hoop to the top of Mount Olympus–the highest point in Greece. #giannis #nike #justdoit pic.twitter.com/qHxE0amhxt
