Having only one match remaining before the playoffs begin, the Hawthorn Spartans took on Williamstown last Saturday at the Rathmine Reserve.

Anthony Demetriou’s men made the most of the nice weather and came out of the dressing room ready to enjoy a good game of football, oblivious to the fact that they had already succeeded in locking in first place. Once more this season, the Spartans took the lead from the opening minutes and despite the small difference between them and their opponents in the first quarter (2 6 18 to 1 3 9), they eventually found their way to more goals and widened the margin of their victory.

The Spartans players seemed to be highly focused on the task at hand and didn’t let up until the final minutes of the game, winning by 61 points. After an excellent regular season that saw them finish at the top of the table with 13 wins and just two losses, they begin the playoffs this Saturday against PEGS having the home advantage. They will hope to have the support of their fans in their attempt to advance even further. Should they manage to pull off a win, they will go to the final round of the competition. The only goal for the team is to lift a championship trophy for a second consecutive season. The game will begin at 9.20 am.
