The time has come for the Hawthorn Spartans to prepare for their ultimate challenge that will see the eastern suburbs team take on rivals, the Old Xaverians. A lot is at stake as the winner will walk away champion of the Thirds Division.

Spirits are high at Rathmine Reserve, after last week’s annihilation of PEGS with a margin of over 80 points that carried them into the final.

Anthony Demetriou and his men hope to capitalise on their success and take home yet another trophy. In what has been a highly successful opening period in the life of the club, they have walked away as winners from half of a total of eight Grand Finals.

The Spartans have enjoyed yet another successful season that saw them end at the top of the table during the regular season with 13 wins and just two losses.
They moved on to the playoffs with the home advantage and crushed Essendon with 80 points, booking their ticket to the Grand Final.

Their opponents are no strangers either, as a bitter rivalry has formed between the two sides over the years, adding to the excitement of the final.

The game will be played on Saturday, 7 September at Whitefriars College Oval in Donvale at 2.30 pm,  with the crowd expected to give their full support to the Spartans as they attempt to win yet another league title.
