Students at Yarraville St Nicholas Greek School are gearing up for the annual Greek Olympics competition.

Held on Saturday 21 September, the event has been a school tradition for over 10 years.

Spokesperson for the language school, Father Alexandros said the event is an important and fun way for students to learn about the history of the Olympic games.

“Students will learn about the history and traditions associated with the ancient Olympics games and give meaning to how the modern games are held today. With Japan hosting the games in 2020, it couldn’t be a more appropriate time to learn about the games,” Farther Alexandros said.

Some of the games the students will play include a running marathon, a jumping race, javelin and potato sack race.

St Nicholas Greek School was one of the very first Greek schools to be established in Melbourne.
