Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis has been appointed by Australia’s Greek Orthodox Archbishop Makarios, as the inaugural Bishop of Brisbane.

It is the second time he has made history in Australia; Bishop Iakovos was the first ever Australian-born to be ordained as an Orthodox Bishop.

Writer Dean Kalimniou took to Facebook to pay tribute to the Bishop, in honour of his new appointment.

“His Grace is a humble, softly spoken, self contained man with a keen sense of humour and a rare appreciation of the original Star Wars trilogy. Our loss here in Melbourne is Brisbane’s gain, where spreading his wings, undoubtedly he will accomplish amazing things. Άξιος!!” Mr Kalimniou wrote.

Bishop Iakovos will begin his service in the Fourth District of the Australian Archdiocese as of 1 November, 2019.
