Greece managed an 84-77 victory over Czech Republic, however needed a 12-point margin of victory to progress to the semi-finals.

Czechs led at half-time, but Greece’s hopes for a wider margin were dashed as NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo was forced out of the game after being pinged for a contentious charge. He fouled out with five and a half minutes remaining. The team were 65-53 up when he re-entered the game during the fourth quarter.

Nick Calathes was the star man for Greece with 27 points:

Nick Calathes is only the second Greek 🇬🇷 player combining for 20+ points, 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists in a single game in the FIBA Basketball World Cup since 1994 – the first was Giannis Antetokounmpo v New Zealand this year #FIBAWC

Despite Greece’s seven-point win, the team goes home.

The Czechs will be in the last eight if Brazil lose to the United States.
