The General Staff of the Greek Navy announced the disappearance of  “military materials” that had been stockpiled at Leros Naval Technical Installation Services (YNTEL).

The statement notes that Greek military and police authorities are conducting a preliminary investigation into the missing items that were first noted “in the afternoon hours of Monday, 9 September 2019, following extensive checks that found discrepancies between planned and actually occupied military material.”

Authorities are now looking at the circumstances surrounding the loss of the equipment and speculation has been raised regarding whehter the theft could even be linked to terrorism, and the anti-terrorism squad was also participating in the investigation, according to media reports.

The nature of the “military material” was not specified however media speculation has focused on the possibility of these including explosives.
