A Greek Cypriot woman, 52, and her daughter, 20, were arrested in the Turkish Cypriot occupied north on Sunday for taking photos of the home where they lived in before the Turkish invasion of the island.
The two women took photos after entering the garden of the house where the mother had lived before 1974, but which is now occupied by a Turkish Cypriot army officer.
Both women are expected to appear before a military court on Monday, charged with taking photos in the town of Morphou. A statement was issued by Turkish Cypriot authorities that states that both the mother and daughter were arrested at 10am on Sunday for breaking the law on taking photos and videos in a military zone.
The government of Cyprus is aware of the arrest, and the municipality of Morphou has strongly condemned the incident.
