Melbourne Pancretan Youth Club returns from Crete Tour

The Pancretan Youth Club (PYC) was formed in 1976 by a group of second Generation Greek Australians of Cretan background.

They had the initiative to bring together people of the same or similar age group so that they don’t lose sight of their Hellenic identity and Cretan Ancestry.

Since then, many committees have continued the tradition and have organised events and functions, writing great chapters in the Youth Club’s history books. It’s these people that we acknowledge and thank as we take over the reigns and reinvigorate this proud and historic Youth Club.

Currently the Youth Club Committee consists of a great group of vibrant individuals wanting to serve the Pancretan Youth of Melbourne – Australia with great pride and passion that have planned many activities and events including the Club’s second trip to Greece in as many as five years, titled ‘Return to the Roots’.

The Pancretan Youth Club were honoured to represent the Melbourne Association in Crete, and participate in the many events and activities that were planned on the island.

The PYC members that travelled to Crete participated in several activities from Chania to Heraklion with an aim to promote and strengthen the ties between Greece and Australia whilst getting reacquainted with the rich Cretan history and traditions.

The trip to the homeland culminated with the Global Cretan Association and Cretan District honouring distinct Cretans of the diaspora, amongst whom two Greek Australians, Mr Socrates Tsourdalakis and Mr Dimitris Papadodimitrakis.
