For anyone looking for a safe bet on tomorrow’s Melbourne Cup, Greek-named Constantinople could be your best choice.

The Irish horse bred by David and Tom Hayes and Tom Davernig and lead by Portuguese jockey Joao Moreira was able to finish fourth in the recent Caulfield Cup and after a horrid start that saw it begin the race from the end of the lineup.

The reason behind the horse’s Greek name remains unknown, however it poses as a fun choice that comes with good chances of giving a little something back to those who are willing to place their faith in the heritage namesake.

For those not willing to take that deep of a plunge, they could always take the safer option on the thoroughbred making a top-3 position, as it seems to be one of the top recommendations of the bookies.

Right now its odds make it second favourite to win the big race, behind Caulfield Cup winner Mer De Glace.
