Following weeks of speculation, US basketball coach Rick Pitino will coach Greece’s national team.
The Hellenic Basketball Federation released a statement on Friday that announced his appointment. Details of Pitino’s coaching project will be presented during a press conference on Monday.
The Hellenic Basketball Federation’s chief Giorgos Vassilakopoulos said that Pitino agreed to coach the Greek national team as it strives to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Mr Pitino had coached Greek team Panathinaikos to the end of the season from December 2018 through to February 2019, and he helped the team win the Greek Basketball Cup against PAOK in the final.
In the past, Mr Pitono has coached the New York Knicks, Providence Friar’s and took teams to the NCAA Final Four seven times.
