The exhibition entitled Aphrodite’s Island: Australian Archaeologists in Cyprus was officially launched last week with Beirut Hellenic Bank as the major sponsor.

The exhibition launched by Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO, Chancellor of the University of Sydney, was attended by the High Commissioner for Cyprus, Yiannis Iacovou, Consul General for Greece in Sydney, Vasilios Tolios, Beirut Hellenic Bank’s chairman, Nicholas Pappas, and Managing Director and CEO James Wakim, along with 300 invited guests.

In his speech, Mr Pappas spoke of the importance of such an exhibition and the close connections between Cyprus and the bank.

“As a multicultural bank, we aim to support initiatives that strengthen ties with our history, our culture and our heritage and this could be no better example.”

Aphrodite’s Island is open to the public for viewing until November 2013. For more information visit http://sydney.edu.au/museums/events_exhibitions/nocholson_exhibitions.shtml
