Yorgos Lanthimos’ Alps has been named one of the ten best films of 2012 by The Guardian.

Alps came in at number nine and the publication said the movie is “fiendish…fluid…possibly unstable; a precious memory that turns around and bites.” The Greek movie is a story about the afterlife, and has been receiving critical acclaim and accolades in a year-long festival run, winning awards at the Venice, Sofia International and Sydney Film Festivals and was also featured in this year’s Greek Film Festival in Australia.

The film stars Aggeliki Papoulia, Stavros Psyllakis, Aris Servetalis and Johnny Vekris. Greece submitted Lanthimos’ previous film, Dogtooth, for Oscar consideration, and it was nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards. It didn’t win, but brought attention to Lanthimos’ filmmaking.
