Jimmy Rooney Medal winner and Bentleigh Greens 2019 Grand Final hero , keeper Ryan Scott is the latest in the line of Green folk to join new A-League club Western United after it was reported earlier this week that he’s signed on with the A-League club, as a three-month injury replacement deal.

Scott has been at the Greens for the last five years and joins his former coach John Anastasiadis and team mate Valentino Yuel at Western United.

Scott told The News ( Mornington Peninsula): “ I’ve worked hard over the years and I suppose the hard work has paid off. I go with Bentleigh’s blessing and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity they have given me.”

Meanwhile, the Greens playing roster continues to undergo renewal with the recent signings of Kingston City pair, striker Damian Iaconis and winger Alex Caniglia, who will re-unite with former coach Nick Tolios. The signing of the Kingston players follows the signing of 23-year-old central midfielder Josh Wallen. The Sydney-born Wallen has spent the last few seasons playing football in the UK.

Amidst the comings and goings at the Greens, one player who remains a constant fixture is the enduring skipper Jack Webster who has just extended his contract till the send of 2021. Webster joined the club in 2009 and is the longest serving player at the club.

The Greens’ rivals, Heidelberg United, are also undergoing a squad renewal with the announcement during the week that striker Tom Cahill is departing from the club. Recruited two seasons ago after the departure of Kenny Athiu to Melbourne Victory, Cahill made over 60 appearances and scored 28 goals for the club, helping it to win two NPL premiership plates and an NPL Championship trophy. The Bergers are yet to announce a replacement signing.

Oakleigh Cannons has further strengthened their squad with the signing of Western Australian pair Joe Knowles and Harley Orr. The 24-year-old midfielder Orr joins from WA champions Perth SC, whilst 23-year-old forward Joe Knowles was part of Perth Glory’s senior squad for three seasons during which he made 15 appearances.

Speaking on the Cannons Facebook page, Orr commented, “I’m really looking forward to a new challenge in Melbourne.”

“I know the competition in Melbourne is right up there with the best, so I’m really looking forward to testing myself in a new environment.

“Also really looking forward to working with Chris Taylor, I’ve heard great things.”

“I’m expecting big things for sure this season,” he said.

“Knowing the club fell short last year makes me really keen to go that little bit further and start adding some trophies to the cabinet.”
