Greek swimmer Andreas Vazaios, 25, won the gold medal on Friday night in the 200-metre Independent Medley at the 25th European Swimming Pool Championship in Glasgow, Scotland. His finish time was 1:50:85, breaking the European record of 1:51:36 that had been held by Hungarian Olympic champion Laszlo Cseh since 2015.

The young champ broke the Greek national record twice both in the preliminary swim (1:52:38) and in the finals where he broke both the Greek and European records.

The result inserts Vazaios in the list of all-time performers at slot Number 3. Only American Ryan Lochte has been faster with his World Record of 1:49.63, while Japan’s Kosuke Hagino is ranked Number 2 in his fastest time of 1:50.47.
