Visitors to the Lemnos Gallipoli Memorial in Albert Park in Melbourne will now find it a bit easier to locate it.

The City of Port Phillip has erected directional signage on the each of the four main roads leading to Lemnos Square, such as on the corner of Foote Street and Beaconsfield Parade.

This initiative follows on from the recent proposal made by the Lemnos Gallipoli Commemorative Committee and adds to the formal naming of Lemnos Square as the location of the memorial.

Lemnos Square is now also listed on Google Maps.

The president of the committee, Lee Tarlamis OAM, said that the committee was very appreciative  the City of Port Philip’s intiative.

Mr Tarlamis added that that the new signage will be welcomed by Melbourne’s Hellenic community, as well as anyone who is interested in the link between the island of Lemnos and Australia’s Anzac story in the Gallipoli campaign.
