Greek authorities have reported finding more than a thousand kilos of processed cannabis (hashish) in a ship that had docked at Pireaus on its way from Lebanon to Libya – one of the biggest hauls to be recovered in recent years.

A Greek police statement said that the drugs were found hidden in a container on board that contained date paste.

The police discovery of the drug haul was made in cooperation with authorities from the United States and Saudi Arabia, the statement said.

According to the police statement, the drugs were loaded on to the freighter in Lebanon and were bound for the Mistrata, in Libya.
