Greek-Australian musician Vasiliki Karagiorgos (more commonly known as ‘VASSY’) recently took part in a concert, with all proceeds going towards the bushfire relief efforts.

More specifically, the Darwin-born performer was part of an ensemble of Australian artists that included Hook N Sling, Nina Las Vegas and Yolanda be Cool to participate in a benefit dubbed Make It Rain that was held at Hollywood Boulevard’s Academy Nightclub last Wednesday 29 January. The event raised over $100,000.

VASSY is well known for her close ties to Greece and Australia. When she recently spoke on a local website she seemed deeply affected by the ongoing situation in her home nation, and said that she wanted to do something to help out.

“Right now we need to do everything to save whatever wildlife we have left, to prevent extinction and help communities get back on their feet, try to slow down the fires and try to nourish the land that’s been burned so that there can be new vegetation for the remaining wildlife. As a Greek-Australian, being born and raised in Australia, it hits home for me and being so far I feel helpless,” the artist said.

The proceeds from the Make it Rain event will go to organisations such as the Red Cross and the New South Wales Wildfire Council.
