Seasoned performers Out of the Blue will bring together their biggest show yet with the performance The Journey. The musical collective will perform all their greatest tracks from live performances throughout the years.
Georgette Giatis, told Neos Kosmos that “the concert The Journey is just that – a journey through all the concerts and productions have put together.
“We felt it was important that we did this because people were always asking when we were going to repeat some of our productions, this way they get a bit from every one,” she said.
Out of the Blue was formed in 2005 by Panayioti Kalandranis. The name itself has a double meaning: from the blue of the Mediterranean and the fact that all the members got together ‘out of the blue’.
The main members are; Georgette Giatis, publicist, director and performer; Panayioti Kalandranis, musical director and arrangements and musician; Themistoklis Ioakimidis and Petros Apostolidis on bouzouki; Stamatis Valacos, double bass; and Dimitri Vouros on flute, sax, and clarinet.
The band has a selection of session musicians depending on their productions and non-Greek musicians also, such as Daniel Weltlinger who played violin in Roza Queen of the Greek blues (a tribute to Roza Eskenazi), Imogen Granwal played the cello in Zambetologies (a tribute to Georgos Zambetas), just to name a few.
The Journey is a retrospective of all the performances done by Out of The Blue.
Georgette explains: “From Rembetika the Greek blues, Music of the Aegean, Zametologies, Roza Queen of the Greek Blues, and The Scattered Songs which we had the pleasure of Anthea Sidiropoulos, Iakovo Papadopoulos and Achilea Yiangoulis coming from Melbourne to perform with us, and songs from our last collaboration with Vasili Aligianni and his production The Cycle of Life.
“The production promises to be a lot of fun, we have a wonderful band Themistoklis Ioakimidis and Petro Apostolidis on bouzoukia, Stamatis Valacos double bass, Dimitri Vouros clarinet, flute and sax, Peter Milonakis percussion, Dimitri Fox on drums, accordion by Nikos Yianellis, violin and vocals Kostas Pistiolis, Nikos Sousamidis on guitar and vocals, our captain Panayioti Klandranis on guitar, laouto baglama by Panayioti Klandranis. And myself John Tzavaras, Panayiota Binta and Eleni Meligonitis on vocals.
“In most of our productions we have dancers and actors that perform, so we have called on them to come and do their bit, Fotia Dancers Irini and Michael Lantis, The Greek Folk Dancers of NSW Vasili Aligiannis, and Marcus Megalokonomos, plus more surprises on the night.”
