Former England captain David Beckham has given the A-League a miss and has joined big-spending French side Paris St Germain.

Last year Beckham was linked to an A-League move with reports clubs such as Perth Glory, Melbourne Heart and the Central Coast Mariners were prepared to table rich offers to land the star.

But, the deep pockets of Paris St Germain, who are under Qatari ownership, clinched a five month contract with the star.

“I am very lucky. I am 37 years old and I got offered a lot of offers, more offers now than I have probably had in my career, at my age,” Beckham said about his signing.

“I chose Paris because I can see what the club are trying to do, the players the club are trying to bring in. It’s an exciting city, always has been, always will be”.

The team has been spending big over the past years, signing the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Javier Pastore.

As to his salary, Beckham has pledged he will be donating it to charity, effectively playing for free.

Beckham has been without a club since completing a five-year contract at Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy and was lately keeping fit at England’s Arsenal.
