Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his excellent run at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

The Greek ace may have dropped the first set after 12 successful efforts his game with Jan-Lennard Struff, but he found a way to make the comeback from a very difficult position, earning a much-wanted place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Raising his performance in the last few games of the encounter, the 22-year-old was able to avoid an early disqualification and after almost two-and-a-half hours of play, sealed his second consecutive qualification in the semi-finals of an ATP contest.

The final result was 4-6, -64, 6-4 in favour of the Greek player, who is currently ranked at world number six and will meet with Dan Evans of Great Britain today.

This was Stefanos’ seventh consecutive win, after his success in Marseille last week that saw him lift the Open 13 trophy for the second season in a row.

He is now only two wins away from his first trophy in the ATP 500 series. In order to reach this victory, the young player had to dig deep, as the world number 34 appeared focused and well-disciplined in their game in Dubai.

But the Greek player’s quality was what made the difference in the final games, giving Stefanos an important moral boost ahead of the difficult challenge that awaits him in order to seal a place to the final.

The little details played a major impact in the final outcome, with only one break making the difference in each set.

After leading with 4-5, the German created a triple set-point situation for himself and it was the third of those opportunities that put him in the driver’s position.

But in the opening game of the second set, Tsitsipas responded with a break, which he held all the way till the end, bringing the two players on level terms.

The game was decided in the third and final set, with the two players being tied 4-4. It was there that Tsitsipas’ experience began to show. he created two break points, winning the second of them, with the German seeming unable to handle the pressure.

A few moments later, the young Greek held his serve to earn his place in the semi-finals.
