Greece’s Health Ministry announced on Saturday, that the total number of coronavirus cases in the country has risen up to seven.

A woman and a man, related to previously confirmed cases in Greece as well as a man who had recently traveled to Italy are being treated in hospitals in Athens and Thessaloniki respectively.

Amidst fears of a pandemic, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the country will tighten border controls to prevent the spread of COVID-1.

“Our islands are already overburdened with public health issues and they must be doubly protected,” Mitsotakis, whose administration has taken a tough stance on migration, told a cabinet meeting.

“Putting it simply, we will do whatever it takes to prevent the appearance of the virus – particularly there,” he said, referring to the islands.

At the same time, Turkey decided to open its border to Greece letting thousands of migrants without identification enter Europe in an attempt to push for more support.

France has over 100 confirmed cases of coronavirus while in neighbouring Italy cases have gone well over 1000, 29 of which fatal.

Finally, Romanian authorities confirmed the first, and only to this date case of coronavirus in the country, however, the news were met with an unprecedented wave of public hysteria seeing supermarkets and pharmacies across the country facing shortages for fear of a pandemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the spread of the virus is “getting bigger” with over 85,000 people reportedly infected worldwide.
