The federal government has unveiled plans for a massive stimulus package valued at $17.9 billion to give the Australian economy a boost as the COVID-19 coronavirus threatens to cause a recession.

One of the initiatives include $750 cash payments to benefit recipients, which include pensioners and all recipients of the Newstart allowance, disability support payments, carers allowance, youth allowance, veterans support, as well as health care card holders among others.

Around 6.5 million Australians will receive an instant cash payment that will begin being rolled out from 31 March.
