The Greek police force has arrested at least 127 people for breaking nationwide quarantine rules that were implemented last weekend. The police announcement notes that 48 of these were in the Attika region where Athens is located, followed by Western Greece (25), Thessaly (10, Macedonia and Thrace (7) and the South Aegean (7).

Most breaches were made in cafes, taverns, beauty parlours, leisure centres and supermarkets that were ordered to shut down for a fortnight from last Saturday in order to restrict the spread of coronavirus.

Fines of up to 5,000 euros will be enforced on those caught breaking the quarantine rules.

Inspections are continuing to ensure the safety of public health.

There are 182,000 cases of coronavirus worldwide with 7,171 deaths according to the current tally. Greece has 352 cases and 4 deaths, whereas Australia has 401 cases and 5 fatalities.

Greece is one of the countries that has called for a nationwide shutdown.
