Five hundred officers will be out on the streets of Victoria to ensure that social distancing measures that have been put in place are adhered to.

The officers will hold spot checks on returning travellers to ensure that they are following their 14-day isolation, and will ensure that the bans in indoor and outdoor gatherings are adhered to.

In the Stage 1 shutdown, pubs, clubs, nightclubs, the Crown Casino and licensed venues in hotels and pubs will be shut down, as will gyms, indoor sporting venues, places of worship and cinemas.

Restaurants will be open for takeaway services.

Other businesses, such as retailers, health services, shopping centres and tradies can continue to operate as long as they follow the social distancing guidelines.
