According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and official website of earthquake.usgs.gov an earthquake of 6.6 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred 90 kilometres from Ierapetra, Greece on 2 May, 10:51 pm.

The quake originated 17 km below sea level off the island of Crete, and a regional tsunami warning was put out to areas within a 40 km range from the centre of the quake origin, which applies to the shores of Greece, as well as certain shores in Turkey and Egypt.

After the earthquake occurred, people in Turkey, Israel and Libya reported that they felt the tremors in various areas, especially in coastal communities.
