Good news for Greek football fans as the government has given the “green light” for the resumption of the season. After a meeting between the stakeholders of the Super League, an agreement was reached in order to submit an official request to restart the competition, based on the health guidelines that were released by the ministry of health, which has now been formally approved. A new meeting will now be held to finalise all the minor details, such as the dates and times of the matches, but also to hold the draw for the relegation procedure which will be decided through the play-outs. It’s worth pointing out that the last time football athletes in Greece saw any official action dates back to three months ago, with the league being put to a halt at the end of February due to the coronavirus restrictions.

OENNING RENEWS WITH ARIS, VAGIANNIDIS TO JOIN INTER MILAN

Meanwhile, clubs are continuing their plans not just for the play-offs, but for the season to follow, with Aris coming to an agreement with German coach Michael Oenning to extend their agreement for a further season. Oenning’s record at the club has been more than satisfactory, as he has helped the Thessaloniki team to 10 wins, nine draws and only six losses in a total of 25 matches, giving them a position within the play offs. Oenning is a highly experienced manager as he has trained many teams from the Bundesliga, including Nurnberg and Hamburg.

At Panathinaikos, one their brightest prospects, 18-year-old Giorgos Vagiannidis, is getting ready to move to Inter Milan, with only the official documents left to sign between the two parties. Vagiannidis will join the “nerazzuri” as a free agent as his contract with the greens expires in July and claims that he was persuaded by Italian manager Antonio Conte who pointed out that he will be given an opportunity to play with the first team. According to Italian media outlet “Gazzetta Dello Sport”, the wing-back had plenty of other offers from high profile teams such as Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund, but chose Inter because of his love for Italy and the conversation he had with Conte. Panathinaikos themselves made an attempt to maintain the player as one of their own, but any negotiations were quickly shut down.

Finally, champions PAOK will be forced to play the end of the season without key midfielder Douglas Augusto who suffered a ruptured knee during training and will be out of action for the next few months.
