Greek Minister of Culture and Sports Dr Lina Mendoni has announced the reopening of all museums in Greece from 15 June.

The news has been welcomed by founder and chairman of the International Organising Committee Australia for the Restitution of the Parthenon Marbles Emanuel J Comino AM, who says, “The timing is auspicious as on 20 June, a mere five days later, we celebrate the eleventh anniversary of the opening of the Acropolis Museum.”

Mr Comino also used the news to remember comments made earlier this week by British Museum Director Hartwig Fischer who said, “We will continue to research, acknowledge and address the colonial history of Britain and its impact on our institution in exhibitions like Collecting Histories and Reimagining Captain Cook: Pacific perspectives from 2019. But there is much more to do.”

Mr Comino hopes Mr Fischer’s comments will also adhere to the return of the Parthenon Marbles taken during the Ottoman occupation.

“Let us hope your comments are not just empty words. It is time to act,” say Mr Comino.
