Ancient symbols, such as the famous Minoan honeybees’ pendant, the colours and images of the Greek and Brazilian landscapes and aspects of their cultures, are re-invented to create a unique range of home ware items available at ‘stelitsa home’, an online shop that launched in Melbourne only a few months ago.
The online store ‘stelitsa home’, is a new venture that came naturally to Greek Australian author Stella Tzobanakis, who has dedicated so many years exploring her roots in Crete and her connection to Brazil.
“During my travels to Greece and Brazil I wanted to bring the two worlds into my home but I could not find a souvenir, a keepsake, that wasn’t too touristy”, Stella Tzobanakis explained to Neos Kosmos. “That’s how I came up with the idea of creating ‘stelitsa home’. As I love storytelling, each piece comes with a story for the collector to treasure and pass on to others; a kind of legacy or modern day dowry.”
The business was named in honour of Ms Tzobanakis’ Greek grandmother, also Stella, who nicknamed her Stelitsa, a name that invokes in her so many wonderful memories from her travels “home”.
“Each piece has been produced with love to connect people with a destination, a moment, a wish, an experience”, Ms Tzobanakis says describing the concept of her shop.
The home ware and accessories featured in her shop are custom-made, inspired by the sights, sounds, colours and creativity of Greece and Brazil.
The launch collection is based on a series of hand-drawn artworks by Melbourne artist, Despina Tjobanakis, who is Stella Tzobanakis’ talented sister. Her distinct style is inspired and influenced by her eclectic interests, Greek Australian background, and fascination for everything South American.
Available products include tote bags, zipped pouches, scarves, cushion covers, linen wall art prints of tea towels, photographs, art cards, Brazilian wish bracelets or Brazilets.
