Kassiani Raftopoulos, well-known in the Greek community of Melbourne, passed away at the age of 90.

Born in Ithaca, Mrs Raftopoulos migrated to Australia in 1953 and was the wife of Stathis Raftopoulos, who came to Australia from Ithaca at the age of 13 to be with his father.

After a few years in rural Victoria, Stathis moved to Melbourne and married Kassiani.

Mr Raftopoulos had a love of culture and music, and the couple worked together on many activities of benefit to Greeks living in the city. These included poetry, sports, cinema, theatre, art and numerous other offerings which Stathis worked on, with Kassiani always by his side.

In 2003, her husband died, marking the end of an era.

The Raftopoulos couple are survived by three daughters and one son and numerous grandchildren.
