We are saddened to learn of the loss of another prominent figure in our community, the beloved Philia Polites.

Ms Polites, who was known for her great and long-term social contribution, was also a member of the Neos Kosmos family as the first editor of our English edition.

A few weeks before her death, Philia Polites was honoured by the state with the Order of Australia medal for her contribution to people with disabilities and the wider community.

In 2000, the she was honoured with the ACT Women’s Award in recognition of her 35 year contribution to the multicultural community of the Australian Capital Territory and in areas related to women’s health, domestic violence, elderly care, education, AIDS and disability.

Philia Polites’ accolades and achievements run far and wide and she will undoubtedly stay the memory of all us all as a woman of offering and unceasing struggle for a better and fairer society.
