Coronavirus cases are spiking again in Victoria, as the state records another 127 new cases overnight, and another death. A man in his 90s has died in hospital overnight.

From Tuesday midnight, the Victorian border with New South Wales will be closed, a decision that comes after the COVID-19 crisis intensifies in Victoria.

The dramatic decision to close the borders between the two states for the first time in 100 years, was made after talks between Premiers Daniel Andrews and Gladys Berejiklian and Prime Minister Scott Morrison earlier today.

The Victorian Premier is due to make an announcement later this morning.

The decision comes after Victoria records 108 new cases on Saturday, the second highest increase since the pandemic began, and after nine public housing estates were completely locked down over the weekend in an effort to contain the spread of the virus.

More to come.
