Amidst the pandemic Day 9 of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown began with low expectations, however, in the last match of the afternoon session, Stefanos Tsitsipas ascertained his spot at the top of the league by taking on David Goffin.

Winning the first match, Tsitsipas faced him again, winning with a clear 18-12 16-13 14-11 22-11.

Even though Tsitsipas’ UTS journey started off slow he raced through the duel solidifying his place with a total of 19 winners to Goffin’s 11, and only 11 errors compared to a whopping 25 from Goffin.

Now the Greek star holds a 8-1 win-loss record with the only defeat attributed to Dominic Thiem, who has now dropped out of the tournament at a 3-1 record.

Today will see Tsitsipas v Goffin for the second time in 24 hours, and Gasquet v Berrettini.

In their match earlier in the tournament, Berrettini came out a 4-0 winner but it is Gasquet who has gone on to finish a place higher in the league table.

The winners of those two matches will face off in the grand final later in the day to be crowned the first ever UTS Champion.
