This Thursday morning Melburnians woke up to dense fog covering their suburbs.

Drivers dealt with low visibility on the roads and temperatures dropped to below zero in many areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology sent out an alert, warning drivers of ice on the road in some parts of the state along with the low visibility.

“Reduced visibility in fog will make road conditions dangerous during Thursday morning, mainly across northern, western and eastern suburbs,” the bureau wrote online.

The State Emergency Service called on drivers to maintain reduced speeds, turn on their lights and pay more attention to the distances between vehicles.

The fog is expected to subside during the day and the temperature to rise above 10 degrees Celsius. However there is a possibility that conditions will worsen again at night.
