They may have been required to pack away their outdoor settings and indoor seating, but Melbourne’s famous Hellenic precinct at Eaton Mall, Oakleigh, is still open for business.

Even so, Kentro Greek Restaurant employee, Christos Petris, said he believed people were apprehensive about coming to buy takeaway.

“The second lockdown is worse than the first,” he said.

“The people are afraid.”

Neos Kosmos visited the popular restaurant and shopping strip on Tuesday between 4.30- 5pm.

All the popular restaurants offered takeaway with doors open at Nikos Quality Cakes, Hunky Dory, Meat Me, Vanilla Lounge, Katialo Greek Restaurant and Melissa Oakleigh.

The mall’s speciality group of shops in Monastiraki were also open. As were eateries in adjoining streets, like Kalimera Souvlaki Art and Orexi Souvlaki Bar and Cafe in Chester St.

As per regulations, the eateries displayed social distancing markers and hand sanitisers and limited the number of customers inside their shops.

Katialo had special takeaway food offers, Melissa was offering updated menus and Kentro was even selling masks for cautious customers wanting added protection.

Near Kentro’s glass cabinet packed with Greek dinner options was the sign:”Masks with two Filters – $14.95 Each.” Underneath the sign was a pictorial outline on how to wear the masks.
