Apostolis Barbousas, a resident in St. Basil’s Melbourne nursing home passed away on Sunday, aged 79.
His son, Nikolas, called Neos Kosmos to report the chaotic circumstances at the aged care facility.
“Since management changed temporarily, the situation has been tragic. We could not communicate with our parents,” Mr Barbousas says.
“Imagine… my father was fighting for his life in hospital and I received a phone-call from the nursing home notifying me he was in his room at St. Basil’s. When I asked the call-centre they told me he was in… Adelaide”.
Mr Barbousas told the newspaper that his father had been a resident at the aged care facility for the past six years, but he was satisfied.
“The situation declined dramatically due to coronavirus,” he stressed, “communication became problematic and during the last week it was tragic.”
“My father tested negative the first time, then, some tests were lost; then we were told the second test result was unclear and then we lost him,” Mrs Barbousas said.
